Trip to Namur in Wallonia

Today I was feeling a little better so I decided to go to Namur with the crew. When I say crew, I mean the people who seem to have congregated together into a group to go on outings together. Met another girl today, Anna from Romania (actually the 2nd Romanian we have from Transylvania!) so of course many stories were traded on the train, about how Dracula supposedly had haemophilia so he drank blood to procure clotting factors. Needless to say there was much debate and continuous jokes about fangs, bats, blood and coffins all day.

Namur (which I really struggle to pronounce hehe) is in the south of Belgium, in Wallonia the french-speaking part. It took about an hour and a half by train to get there. We started off at the tourist office which provided us with great maps and touristy stuff, so we actually knew which spots to check out this time. We started in the citadelle which is like a medieval city on a hill above the current one. It has great views of Namur, so we had a picnic lunch there. Then we strolled through the city and checked out the belfry (although not as impressive as Gent or Brugge) and the city cathedral. Then (not my idea ok) we went to a museum, which I can only describe as a museum of medieval pornography. It was pretty tame by today's standards, except for some religious depictions which I found incredibly disturbing and I wish I had never seen. :S. Anyway, each to their own I suppose.

We had a hot chocolate and then cruised on home! Tomorrow the hard work starts, I'm going to the Criminology library (yes! a whole separate library for Criminology!) to start my research for my courses on penal systems and drug policy in europe.

So, this means that I have almost covered the main cities in Belgium :) - Gent, Brugge (and Oostende), Brussels, Liege, and now Namur. Still have to see the very south (eg Arlon) and also one more city in Flanders which we are going to see next week - Antwerp.

Hope you are all well, lots of love
